Unicode is the universal character encoding standard. Mangal is the default Hindi Unicode font used by government departments. Inscript and Remington Gail are layouts used to type Unicode characters. Since Unicode is standard, the output can be searched, emailed, and displayed on mobile screens without installing extra fonts.
Kruti Dev and DevLys are legacy fonts based on typewriter layouts. They are non-Unicode, meaning they replace the English Latin alphabet with Hindi letters without altering the code. Typing 'k' prints 'ा' (aa matra) and 'd' prints 'क'. Our tool supports this directly, and converts it under-the-hood so your copied text is clean Unicode.
Remington Gail is the classic layout resembling mechanical typewriters. It is highly valued by typists who trained on old hardware. Inscript (Indian Script) is the official keyboard layout endorsed by the Government of India. Inscript is standardized and group-vowels are logically arranged on the left side, and consonants on the right.
Phonetic typing allows you to type Hindi in English transliteration (e.g. typing "bharat" outputs "भारत"). This is the easiest mode for casual typists, bloggers, and translators who want to produce Hindi content quickly without memorizing complex layouts.
